War knows no winners, only losers. And who is the hero and who is the victim?
War knows no winners, only losers. And who is the hero and who is the victim?
The life stories of the three main characters run through the novel like a red thread. Georg von Wasserhof, a major in the Wehrmacht who experienced the fury of Stalingrad and was recalled to Berlin just before its fall. German submarine captain Kurt Taller, sailing with wolf packs into the waters of the merciless Atlantic to sink Allied convoys, with which hundreds and thousands of people find death at the bottom of the sea, often innocent civilians, and British warship captain Harry Holm, which in turn protects these convoys.
What will ultimately bring these three men together when they are each other's enemies and their lives depend on the other? Is this just an intelligence game of death played out between German and British intelligence?
