Pet Shop Boys: Elysium

LP Record Released in 2012, Elysium revealed a new evolution in the Pet Shop Boys' sound and musical development. The songwriting process began while the Pet Shop Boys were on tour with Take That, with some tracks dating back to 2008. The album was co-produced by the Pet Shop Boys and Andrew Dawson, who had worked extensively as an engineer on Kanye West's album "808s & Heartbreaks" – an album Neil Tennant was "slightly obsessed with" at the time. The dark atmosphere in Elysium's lyrics is also reflected in the album's sound. Neil Tennant explains: "On one hand, it's very 'deep' sonically – it has a lot of sub-bass – but it's also deep in terms of its subject matter and how it's expressed. But I think it's the most beautiful Pet Shop Boys album."
