Phoenix Crown

A thrilling and unforgettable story about the fates of two different women

San Francisco, the beginning of the twentieth century. In a city full of new-money millionaires, two different women hope to change their destinies: Gemma, a golden-haired soprano with an exceptional voice whose career desperately needs a boost, and Suling, a petite embroiderer from Chinatown determined to escape an arranged marriage. Their paths cross when they come into the orbit of Henry Thornton, a charming railway magnate whose extraordinary collection of Chinese antiques includes the fabled Phoenix Crown, a legendary relic from the Summer Palace in Peking. However, when a devastating earthquake hits San Francisco, Thornton disappears without a trace, as does the Phoenix Crown. Five years later, the precious relic reappears at a lavish masquerade ball in Paris.
