Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here (Discovery Edition) - CD
“Wish You Were Here“ is the ninth studio album by the English band Pink Floyd. It was released in September 1975 and topped the UK and US charts (the first such Pink Floyd album), building on the success of the previous album The Dark Side of the Moon.
“Wish You Were Here“ is a concept album that deals with two themes. The songs “Shine On You Crazy Diamond“ and the title “Wish You Were Here“ are dedicated to Son Barrett, co-founder of the band and its first leader, who had to leave the group for health reasons in 1968. The second topic, which the album touches, is the music industry, criticism of his commercial focus and lack of understanding and interest in musicians. These are the songs “Welcome to the Machine“ and “Have a Cigar“.
This is the last album until The Division Bell, featuring keyboardist Rick Wright. All lyrics were written by Roger Waters. The album was recorded from January 6 to July 19, 1975, and was released on September 15 of that year.
In 1986, Swedish pop rock magazine Slitz challenged its readers to choose the best rock album of all time. Wish You Were Here finished in 1st place, The Dark Side of the Moon was second.
