Prague selection: Na Václavskym Václaváku (2016) (2x CD) - CD

The first album presents Pražský výběr as a unique phenomenon on the domestic rock scene and, through excerpts from the contemporary press, highlights all its quirks that irritated the comrades so much that they eventually shut it down. It combines recordings of club performances in Blansko and at Chmelnice in Prague. The second album contains a recording of one of Výběr's last concerts (before the ban) at the Rondo hall in Brno. Listeners are given a unique opportunity to follow the genesis of some of Pražský výběr's famous songs. The band played many of them at these recorded concerts for the very first time or in their original form, and they appeared on subsequent studio albums in a completely different guise. Pražský výběr (M. Kocáb, M. Pavlíček, J. Hrubeš, J. Tomek) is also captured both in its primordial form with Ondřej Soukup on bass, and in its later, more famous line-up with Vilém Čok.

Pražský výběr is a legendary rock band founded by Michael Kocáb in 1976. Initially, they played jazz-rock, but from the early 1980s, they became one of the most important bands of the so-called new wave. Between 1982 and 1986, they were banned by the socialist regime. During its career, Pražský výběr recorded not only the cult album Straka v hrsti, which spread throughout the country via “samizdat” distribution, but also other albums and film music. They have a number of sold-out sports arenas, international concerts, and also a feature-length autobiographical film, Pražákům je hej, to their name. Worth mentioning is the Adieu CA concert to mark the end of the Soviet army's occupation of Czechoslovakia, which featured Frank Zappa as a guest, a concert in Florida for Cuban refugees, and the 2012 concert tour, which was seen by a total of over 100,000 fans.
