Predestined is the first volume of the fantasy series Alex Verus
Alex Verus is a gifted soothsayer who has been through hell in the past and now prefers to stay away from the rest of London's magicians. But when his best friend Luna gets into trouble, Alex can't let her down.
After a period of relative calm, it is suddenly dangerous times for Alex. His services are required by two parties who both want him to help them unlock a mysterious and powerful relic. Neither side cares too much about the strong means they will have to use to force Alex to cooperate.
Fortunately, Alex has a few allies on hand to lean on. He's going to need every helping hand he can get if he's going to have any hope of surviving. Even in the most difficult moments, however, he does not lose his distinctive view of the world and his ability to joke. Benedict Jacka offers an action-packed and humorous urban fantasy of London as most people don't know it. And believe me, this city is far from peaceful.
