Publication Psychological deprivation in childhood
J. Langmeier and Z. Matějčka recorded it after its first publication in . 1963 considerable response. The groundbreaking work, in which the authors cite the works of Western experts as well as results from their own practice with children at risk, describes the concept of psychological deprivation in children in institutional care and in adverse family circumstances. Methodologically thorough work does not stop at a professional assessment of the problem, but puts the interests of the child and a humanistic approach at the forefront. Both authors have made significant contributions to ensuring that the care of abandoned children in our country consists of an appropriate combination of institutional care and supported family or foster care. They also influenced the establishment of the first SOS Children' s Villages. Psychological Deprivation in Childhood is still recommended basic literature for students of psychology, pedagogy, and sociology, but it will be appreciated by anyone who deals with the issue of children at risk. The fourth edition of the work includes a foreword by Professor Vágnerová and an updated selection of literature on the topic.
