The Puppet Show
The Puppet Show, by author M. W. Craven, translated by Lenka Booth
A serial killer is burning his victims in the prehistoric stone circles of the Lake District. He leaves no clues behind, and the police are baffled. When the police find his name carved into the charred remains of the third victim, disgraced detective Washington Poe is recalled to service to take part in an investigation he has no interest in. Reluctantly forming a team with the brilliant but socially awkward civilian analyst Tilly Bradshaw, the mismatched pair uncover a trail that only Poe was meant to see. The elusive killer clearly has a plan, and for some reason, he wants the detective to be part of it. As the body count rises, Poe discovers that he is far more connected to the case than he could have ever imagined.
In a shocking finale that will shatter his self-perception, the gifted detective learns there are far worse things than being burned alive.
