Radio in the Freezer
Are you caring for your senior? And could we see that? Jana Hanušová isn’t afraid to care, to observe, and to write about what it’s like to look after people whose long lives are shortening their memories and slowing down time. Growing old and living with Alzheimer's disease is not easy. Every day is a small or large challenge; you might find yourself unable to put on your socks and discover the radio in the freezer. But the important thing is that you have someone who will wait with you until the frosted device starts playing again, someone who won't abandon you like your memory has. Jana Hanušová is a choreographer. When “the theatre abandoned her” during the Covid pandemic, she decided to use her experience of caring for her ill father, rang the doorbell of a charity, and became a carer for the elderly. After a while, she realised that she could and needed to share all these completely new experiences, and so a book of empathetic, tragicomic notes, observations, and commentaries was born, about what touches every one of us.
