The Middle Ages cannot survive without nobility
Robert Jeremy Cole, an orphan since the age of nine, realizes he has been blessed with a miraculous gift: the ability to sense impending death in the human body. He faced it countless times as an apprentice to a wandering bearded man, with whom he navigated the grim realities of the 11th century. The bachelor's eventful and harsh journey through England brought him valuable experience, but he is still troubled that he cannot help the sick better. Believing that he came into the world precisely to heal his fellow man, he travels to distant Persia to the most famous physician of his time, the Arab scholar ibn Sīnā (Avicenna). But in order to become his disciple, he must pretend to be a Jew in the heart of Islamic culture, and not a "non-Gentile" from the other end of Christian Europe... Will this not hurt his studies and his love?
Based on the book, the German director Philipp Stölzl made a film of the same name (2013), in which the main roles were played by other English actors, including Tom Payne. Ben Kingsley and Emma Rigby.
