Raw Magic

1930s America, Gangsters, Jazz, and Magic

Jake Sullivan survived the Great War, a prison for magically gifted criminals, and a career as a failed detective—and all he has to show for it is the ability to change the weight of objects with a single thought and a deep distrust of anyone who owes him a favour. Including the federal government, for whom he now reluctantly works. When he is tasked with catching Delilah Jones—a bank robber with superhuman strength and the ability to rip a vault door off with her bare hands—he discovers that she is his ex-girlfriend. And that's the smaller problem. The bigger one is a secret society protecting magically gifted individuals and the Chancellor, the most powerful magician in the world, who controls the Japanese Empire and is about to turn a hidden war in the shadows into an apocalypse.
Hard Magic is a full-throttle ride—an alternative history filled with a gangster atmosphere, dark magic, and action that won't let you go until you've read the very last page.
