Rebecca (Steelbook + BOOK) - Blu-ray + Book
Rebecca - Dead and Alive is the American debut of director Alfred Hitchcock.
The young woman falls passionately in love with the rich, recently widowed nobleman Maxim de Winter. After an early wedding, they leave for his estate, where they live together at Manderley Castle. However, the ubiquitous shadow of de Winter' s first wife, Rebecca, who perished under special circumstances, falls on the newlyweds' loving relationship. The house is filled with a kind of unspeakable tension and a cramping atmosphere that falls on the newlyweds at literally every step. She is also convinced that her husband constantly remembers the beautiful Rebecca, and therefore he is not able to give her the necessary attention and feeling.
The story was written by the writer Daphne du Maurier and translated into film by the famous director Alfred Hitchcock.
The plot is concentrated in an old aristocratic residence, where the design, interior lighting and an ingenious camera (capturing, for example, in a single shot the main character and the motionless face of a character who frightens her) contribute to the escalation of tension.
The role of Maxim de Winter was played by Laurence Olivier, his new wife is Joan Fontaine, and Danvers' housekeeper is played by Judith Anderson.
The film won two Oscars in 1941: for Best Black and White Camera (George Barnes) and Best Picture (Producer David O. Selznick).
