Return to Coal River

As a child, Emma Malloy left the remote Coal River area of Pennsylvania, vowing never to return. But as an adult, orphaned and penniless, she accepts a train ticket from her aunt and uncle and heads back to work for free in their company store. There, miners and their impoverished families must pay exorbitant prices for food, clothing, and tools – prices some cannot afford, leaving them to starve. Unable to stand by and do nothing, Emma decides to help. As the lines between what is legal and what is just become blurred, Emma must risk everything to follow the voice of her conscience.
