Robert Křesťan & Druhá tráva: Volume One (LP+CD) - LP

After nine long years, the leading Czech supra-genre band Druhá tráva is releasing a new full-length album. The collection, simply titled Episode One, is part of a two-album project, the second part of which will be released next year, when the band celebrates 30 years on the scene. On his current recording Druhá tráva, he naturally mixes his own original material with borrowed songs. These were translated into Czech by the band's frontman Robert Křesťan. In the discography of the band, Volume One is an exceptional achievement also because the recording was supervised by the British Eddie Stevens, known for his production work for respected bands. He managed to enhance the already very distinctive sound of Second Grass and naturally and undisturbingly enrich it with sounds often typical of electronic music or other genres.
"Originally, both albums were supposed to be released together. We planned to put our songs on one disc and cover versions on the other. The coronavirus epidemic and an interrupted recording session with a British producer changed everything," says singer Robert Křesťan. According to him, the band found itself in a situation in the summer when it had finished all the songs it had taken over and only a few of its own songs. For a long time she then considered whether to release the first disc separately. "We felt that it was insufficient to release only taken compositions without any noticeable connection between them and the original work. But listening to it, it became clear that Eddie Stevens' production style is so unified and in a way unifying that we decided to release a mix of both and wait until next year for the second part. I personally see Episode One as a kind of foreshadowing, like an elevator ride to the top of the jump tower," he adds.
