Rolling Stones: Big Hits (High Tide And Green Grass) - LP

“Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass)“ is The Rolling Stones' first best of album released in the United States in 1966. The British version was not released until seven months later, containing different songs and a different cover. The album ranked third on the US charts.

This selection album appeared in Britain in the fall of 1966, six months after the release of the American Big Hits: High Tide and Green Grass. Even in this case, the British and American versions of the album differ from each other. Thanks to the fact that the album intended for the British market was released half a year later, it already reflects the band' s transition to psychedelic music (e. g. including the single hit “Paint It, Black“). Otherwise, it covers the entire genre spectrum that the Rolling Stones have gone through so far. The album features both a remake by Chuck Berry “Come On“ and a rock burner “Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing in the Shadow?“ “, the roots of the group in R & B is reminiscent of the song “Little Red Rooster“ (which only appears on the UK version, where, unlike the United States, they celebrated success with this song), the transition to folk rock is again “Lady Jane“.

However, none of the albums miss classic hits such as “The Last Time“, “Satisfaction“, “Get Off of My Cloud“ or “19th Nervous Breakdown“, which scored on both sides of the Atlantic. This record not only brings the best of the Rolling Stones' production from their early period, but is also a very successful example of Jagger' s singing and the group' s undisturbed cohesion.
