Russian-Ukrainian relations
When the Russian Federation launched its invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, it was not a surprising act, but the result of long-standing tension. In this updated edition of his book, publicist and journalist Milan Syruček attempts to uncover the roots of the current conflict.
From the reign of Tsar Ivan III until the middle of the last century, the Russian and then Soviet empires expanded at the expense of their neighbours at a rate of 80 kilometres per day, as historians have calculated. Today, Ukraine is another victim of Russian expansionism. It has, in truth, been a victim many times before. In this book, the author explains in detail why Russia believed, and still believes today, that an independent Ukraine never really existed, that it was always Rus, or more precisely, Little Russia.
