Diana Gabaldon

The daughter of an Arizona state senator, she studied zoology and marine biology, working professionally in both fields for a long time while also lecturing on environmental science. She first ventured into the world of literary creation in the 1980s, when she co-created comic book stories from Duckburg for the Walt Disney Company. However, she gained wider public attention with her debut novel Outlander – a historical romance about a war nurse who, on a journey through time, falls back two hundred years to Scotland in 1743. The book won the 1991 RITA Award for Best Romance. She has been a full-time writer since 1992, and her books are now published in thirty countries. She has dedicated nine titles to her heroine Claire Randall and has also created a spin-off series centred on the character of Lord John Grey. The TV adaptation for the Starz channel (since 2014) was met with such an enthusiastic response from female viewers that it has just entered preparations for its eighth and final series.
