Self Acceptance
One of the main sources of chronic stress is dissatisfaction with our physical or psychological characteristics, the inability to forgive ourselves for past mistakes and fears of future failures. Self-acceptance is a mindfulness and kindness-based process of gradually integrating the parts of our personality into a balanced and healthy whole. Stressful motivations based on the desire for reward and fear of punishment or failure can gradually be replaced by healthier, more sustainable and also more pleasant motivations, for which a kind interest in what is really important to us is essential. First, we learn to notice more of what stabilizes us, provides us with resources, and enhances our enjoyment of life. From this secure base, we can then begin to explore and gradually heal thought and emotional patterns that no longer serve us or are out of balance. The focus of the book is on specific and detailed descriptions of working with thoughts and emotions grounded in bodily experience.
