Short Stories and New Short Stories Complete 8 CDs

Zdeněk Svěrák confesses that in high school he thought he would become a short story writer and publish them in bound books. Instead, he spent his life writing film scripts, lyrics for theatre and lyrics for songs. He finally fulfilled his youthful resolution with his collection of short stories, which was published by Fragment in the autumn of 2008 and immediately became a best-seller. After the great success of the first volume, in the autumn of 2011, New Stories, nine more stories were published, which immediately topped the best-seller lists.

A few months after the books were published, Svěrák's Stories and New Stories also received their audio form. Most of them were read by the author himself, of course; in only three cases did he entrust the role of narrator to his favourite fellow actresses and friends - Daniela Kolářová and Libuše Šafránková. However, some stories were missing from the audiobook form, published from 2009 until 2015. Some of them were subsequently published under the title Hot Sunday or Missed Stories, some existed only in digital form. In this set of 8 CDs, all the stories as written by Zdeněk Svěrák finally come together.

The success with readers and audiences alike shows that Zdeněk Svěrák is pursuing his dream of being a writer well. Not only as an author, but also interpretively, he adds humour, desire and sensuality to his excellent narrative, and is capable of subtle nuances in the persuasiveness of his characters (e.g. parish priest Zbyšek Pzontek from Tetřevo, Vendula from The Photographer, the central character of the short story The Cheat, or Věrka from Hot Sunday).

The charm of Svěrák's work lies in the art of precise expression, in the mystery, the erotic lure and the always surprising conclusion. His narratives are united by unexpected punchlines, believable and interesting characters' fates, sensitively communicated details and insights. His work can rightly be compared to that of our greatest short story writers. The effect of the audio reading is enhanced by the music of Jaroslav Uhlíř.

The set of 8 CDs brings published and unreleased intelligent texts by Svěrák in a great interpretation by the author, Dana Kolářová and Libuše Šafránková
