Slavík Jiří: Mother tongue - CD

The album “Mateřština“ presents the excellent double bassist and composer Jiří Slavík in the role of a singer and multi-instrumentalist searching for his cultural roots, using the legacy of folk music in his own contemporary compositions in an original way and returning to childhood when his father opened the door to the world of music.

Nightingale, who studied double bass from the point of view of classical music and jazz and is a virtuoso on this instrument in the best sense of the word, he also plays the violin on the album, viola, cello, piano, dulcimer and clarinet, and in this wild “one-man dulcimer“ he is skilfully seconded by a whistle player and a childhood friend, among others, also the expert on local folk music Marian Friedl.
