Sluk: Pastorale - CD

Christmas concert of folk music and theatre. In addition to folk carols, spiritual and pastoral songs, the concert is complemented by two folk theatre plays. The Christmas play about the biblical King Herod is a reference to the folk treatment of the biblical theme according to which King Herod ordered the slaughter of all the children of Bethlehem within two years (Matthew 2:1-16). This folk play is followed by the puppet nativity play Šopka from the village of Topoľovka. The tradition of puppet nativity plays was brought to Topolovka at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by immigrants from Poland and Ukraine.

Folk music by SĽUK: Zuzana Pokorná (prima donna, 1st violin), Jozef Lednický (1. violin, vocal), Milan Plavucha (2. violin), Peter Rogel (2nd, 3rd violin), Peter Mikulec (viola), Peter Ľupták (viola), Tomáš Gašpierik (double bass), Vladimír Homola (cimbalom, chimes), Barbora Chlebová (flute, whistles), Lukas Lacko (bagpipes, whistles); Singing group and members of the dance ensemble SĽUK (singing)
