Son of Saul - DVD

The film is set in the Auschwitz extermination camp. It tells the story of Saul Ausländer, a Hungarian Jew and member of the Sonderkommando, a group of prisoners usually isolated from the others and assigned the most horrific tasks.
Amidst the machinery of industrial-scale extermination, Saul wants to give his (step-?)son a proper burial. The film is reminiscent of an “arthouse horror” and, for the first time in cinematic history, portrays Auschwitz as a chaotic yet meticulously planned death factory, which the prisoners themselves are forced to operate. This innovative and, in many ways, groundbreaking perspective on the dehumanisation of the Holocaust earned the filmmakers the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, a Golden Globe, and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
