Sons of the Mountains - DVD

The main characters of the story are Bohumil Hanč, an enthusiastic skier, and his good friend Václav Vrbata, who died in the Krkonoše Mountains in 1913 during an international race. On that fateful day, the weather unexpectedly worsened. A strong windstorm enveloped the area and took two lives with it. This tragic event led to the establishment of rescue services, since 1935 the Mountain Service in the Giant Mountains. Václav Vrbata's selfless attempt to save his friend is commemorated every year on 24 March, when we celebrate Mountain Service Day. In the film, the old forester is played by Emerich Rath, a real participant in this infamous race, who found the exhausted Hanč and tried to save him; almost became the third victim himself.
