Spálený Jan: There's probably a catch - LP
Jan Spaleny - Probably there will be a catch / Legendary album in LP and CD form, audio congratulations to the eightieth birthday
Jan Spálený has recorded and continues to record beautiful music, but this album is somewhat unique in his discography. Conducted as his solo, i.e. without ASPM, performed by great studio musicians.
Apart from the vocally and instrumentally omnipotent Spálené, there are Petr Kalandra (harmonica, singing), Michal Pavlicek (guitars), Jiri Vesely (bass guitar, accordion) and Jiri Hrubes (drums, percussion). Accompanied by a "warning" about not using synthesizers, this is pure joy listening to a coherent sounding repertoire for excellent musicians and a distinctive voice. This time only two cover versions, the rest from a rich JS source, with lyrics by Pavel Vrba, Petr Kalandra, Zdeněk Rytíř and the composer himself. It's lightly wistful about the course of life, pleasantly ironic, seemingly resignedly sung, yet full of hidden energy, unique sentiment and believable in every note and word. By the mid-eighties it was starting to dawn and this is a record that usefully reminds us of that time.
New remastering, pressing on 180 gram heavy vinyl. The original creators - graphic designer Karel Haloun and photographer Jaroslav Prokop - reconstructed the cover, for the first time in the form it was supposed to look in 1985. This includes a photograph of the emigrated drummer Hrubes, originally denied by his comrades.
