The album with the Cimrmanian title Podvod deals with eight of Honza Nedvěd' s most famous hits, namely the title Fraud, Birds, Paper roses, Booths, Wandering morning.
Grains, Stone on Stone and Flock of Bees.
The idea of deconstructing and then re-arranging Honza' s almost sacred songs might seem heretical, but Vilém Spilka' s quartet took on this difficult task, with honor. “The music of Honza Nedvěd and the Brontosaurs was part of my childhood childhood,“ says the bandleader. “When you get rid of places of kitschy and sometimes somewhat naive lyrics, there' s a melody left, and Nedvěd can just write that. “The melodies of the songs remain, but all sorts of more or less shocking things happen around them. Metric and harmonic changes, however, always meet the songs, not against it. “A song must remain a song,“ adds Spilka. “Moreover, the basic message of Nedvěd' s compositions is so strong that they actually talked about the arrangements themselves.
