Squirrel William, Ensemble 18+: Vivaldi, Bach, Telemann: Oboe Concerts - CD

If you ask an oboist about the "golden age" of his instrument, he will probably refer you to the first half of the 18th century. It was at this time that a wealth of literature for the oboe was written - solo and trio sonatas, concertos, cantatas. A proper court band could not do without an oboe. Under many of these compositions we find one of the three great names of the late Baroque: Antonio Vivaldi (he dedicated two dozen solo concerts to the oboe! ), J. S. Bach and his friend G. Ph. Telemann, considered one of the most prolific composers of all time.

Although from the same period, the works of these authors represent three very different worlds. What makes them similar is their virtuosity and the considerable demands on the soloist. For this dream project, Vilém Veverka invited his former teacher and colleague, the oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic Dominik Wollenweber, as a guest, alongside the classical ensemble Ensemble 18+ and his musical soulmate, the harpsichordist Barbara Marie Willi. With this next recording Veverka confirms his inalienable place among the leading European oboists.

Vilém Veverka pushes the boundaries of Baroque music interpretation.
