The American rock band Stone Temple Pilots was formed under the name Mighty Joe Young in 1989 in California. After signing with Atlantic Records, they changed their name and achieved commercial success with their debut album, Core, in 1992. The record, which cleverly reflected the emerging changes in rock at the time and capitalised on the popularity of the grunge subgenre, is one of the best-selling titles of the nineties. The band split up in 2002, and its members became involved in other projects (e.g., Velvet Revolver or Army Of Anyone), with Stone Temple Pilots later attempting several comebacks. The central figure of the group until 2013 was singer Scott Weiland. Chester Bennington of Linkin Park also briefly performed with the band.
