Stubborn Marie
Marie Sklodowska - dedicated to science
A fictionalized account of the young years of the famous physicist Marie Curie-Sklodowska. The author describes the nature and character of a young girl who is willing to almost sacrifice herself for the sake of her studies and later science.
From what roots did the famous Nobel Prize-winning physicist Marie Curie-Sklodowska grow? The writer focuses especially on Maria's youth, describing her family background, where there was no money to spare, and her strong character. It depicts her nobility and dedication, which make others love her, and the generosity with which she helps her sister to her longed-for studies in Paris. Instead of the Sorbonne of her dreams, she herself becomes a governess for a time in a rich family in Ščuki, where she meets her first love, but also experiences bitter humiliation when the rich family rejects her as an unsuitable poor bride. Maria's hardships and inner strength and determination during her first years in Paris inspire both compassion and admiration. She is a passionate patriot and wants to return to Warsaw after her studies, but an interesting young scholar, Pierre, crosses her path. Marie stays in France and starts working on research into radioactivity, which will benefit not only physics but also medicine.
