Sudeten House III
How to Deal with the Past and Forget?
For almost ten years, František Smolík has been separated from his family by the barbed wire of a prison. While Jarmila in Skláře must cope with caring for the family on her own, constantly persecuted by the communists, František is slowly losing hope of ever being reunited with them. But times are changing, and the atmosphere in society is beginning to relax. Political prisoners are gradually being released and returning to their homes. However, the return to normal life is fraught with pitfalls, and old injustices cannot be so easily forgotten. This compelling narrative takes us one last time to visit our heroes in the submontane village of Skláře.
Štěpán Javůrek
I was born on 27/09/1987 in Ústí nad Labem. I also spent the first years of my life there, and later I returned to my grandparents' house in Ústí nad Labem – Skorotice for weekends and holidays whenever I could. I had a wonderful childhood there. Later, we moved to Chomutov, another fateful town in my life. His literary debut Chaloupky (2020) was a huge success with readers and became a bestseller upon its release. In 2021, his social novel Nebe na Perninkem was published, and in 2022, the first part of the novel trilogy Sudetský dům was released.
