Sunday afternoon

Young Teo's life unfolds at a slow, soul-crushing pace. His aloof and solitary mother home-schools him, and instead of taking him for walks, she takes him to a community religious centre. Under the Christmas tree, Teo always finds just another volume of the *Kája Mařík* series. And every Sunday afternoon, his father disappears somewhere. But adolescence cannot be stopped, and so, with the start of school and a new friend, Teo's sad routine begins to crack. And with it, the whole family situation, shrouded in silence, secrecy, and sorrow. The older Teo gets, the more he drifts away from his family. But even his own independent life ends up being anything but happy: there's an empty space in it that needs to be filled.

*Sunday Afternoons* is a story about the troubles and tragedies of one family, told from three perspectives. What may seem unhinged to the son suddenly makes sense from the mother's or father's point of view. It is a book about both drifting apart and coming together.
