Agatha Christie

Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Lady Mallowan, née Miller, was born in the seaside resort of Torquay in southern England. She is the best-known author of detective stories and the most published writer of all time. She made her Hercule Poirot the hero of 33 novels and nearly 60 short stories. In a literary career spanning fifty-five years, she has enriched the sleuth scene with the elusive Mr. Quin and retired clerk Parker Pyne alongside Miss Marple, but her favourite investigator remains the promoter of 'grey brain cells'. She also became famous as a playwright (1952's The Mousetrap is the longest-running play in history) and wrote romances under a pseudonym. Hundreds of film adaptations, including the new version of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) and the upcoming Death on the Nile (2020) and Witness for the Prosecution (2021), confirm the unceasing interest in her work.
