Take a bow, gendarmes!

When the well-known Písek author and emeritus commissioner of the criminal police service says that searching through archives and period magazines from the last century requires a good deal of patience, he's right. This time, he presents readers with several thrilling cases investigated in the 1930s by the Písek gendarmerie investigation station, commanded by Staff Captain Votruba. The very titles of the short stories, such as A Badly Paid Alibi, Some Like It Naked and Outdoors, The Law of the Underworld, An Instinct That Failed, A False Alibi, A Waste of Love, A Strong Motive for Revenge, Crime in the Park, and Close Your Eyes, I'm Leaving, Gendarmes! promise a suspenseful read.
