The Awakening - DVD

Sixteen-year-old Jitka escapes from an educational institution to rejoin a group of boys who enjoy drinking and stealing. One day she meets a young waiter, Tonka, who out of love for her joins a group controlled by Jitka's friend Vilda. After the failed theft, they all hide in the cottage, where Jitka falls in love with Tonka and realizes that she wants to live differently. Vilda, however, does not intend to give up Jitka.
Immediately after the premiere, the film became a hit with young people and Jana Brejchová became an international star. Petr Kostka stood in front of the camera for the first time and gave an excellent performance. The film is a probe into the lives of rebellious youth, and the happy ending was imposed on it by the idea-bearers of the time, despite the director's disapproval.
