The boy who wasn't Jewish
Milek is a ten-year-old boy from Zarazice who loves trains and everything that comes with them. Despite his parents forbidding it, he can't resist his friend Ríša's new train set. So, as soon as he drops his school bag at home, he runs off to Ríša's house. But Ríša is Jewish, his parents own a general store, and the year is 1940. The boys are playing together in the flat above the shop when they hear Ríša's mother shouting for them to run and hide. They don't make it in time, and Milek finds himself in the hands of the Gestapo and on a transport to a labour camp in Linz.
Written by the main protagonist's granddaughter, the story is based on true events.
