The case of the suspected archbishop
Moravia under Rome
In the autumn of 880, an envoy returns from Rome, led by Archbishop Methodius and Prince Slavomir. In Rome, Methodius fully defended his activities within the Church, and the Pope also accepted Svatopluk with the whole Moravian country and all its people under the patronage of Rome and the Popes. The Moravians in Rome achieved all their goals. The only problem was that the Pope consecrated Wiching, the main rival of Methodius, as bishop of Nitra.
