The Cases of John Thorndyke
At the turn of the 20th century, the Briton Richard Austin Freeman (1862–1943) became an author to be reckoned with in the world of detective literature, introducing the unforgettable Dr Thorndyke, an early forensic detective. A gentleman of his word, armed with his small green case full of various gadgets, he solved murders and mysteries using logic and factual evidence. The book offers eight of Thorndyke's most enigmatic stories.
Dr Freeman invented the inverted detective story (a crime story in which the crime committed is described at the beginning, usually including the identity of the perpetrator, and the story then describes the detective's attempt to convict the criminal).
