The comfort of Christmas

The comfort of Christmas
In 1984, this recording was made of a festive and extraordinary evening that Miloslav Šimek and his ensemble organised every year in the run-up to Christmas at the Semafor Theatre. Just as gifts are brought under the tree, each of the members of the ensemble performs the best of their performances and songs to gift the audience and spectators of the traditional pageant. As was customary in the Šimek and Grossmann shows, the songs are interspersed with humorous performances. Uršula Kluková presents her mother in an extremely funny way, Luděk Sobota is a fortune teller and together with Miloslav Šimek he is a comic patient of the ear clinic or a frightened visitor to the editorial office of the magazine Svět zvířat.
Miroslav Paleček's song with Michael Janík, Imagine What I Got from Jesus, is a variant of the well-known "Šlitrovka", and their criticism of consumerism is still relevant, just like the song about the tradition of family lunches sung by Hana Horecka. The title of the play accurately describes the Christmas mood of this rare recording from the Semafor Theatre archive. Cheerful performances and humorous songs, but also carols and the Christmas atmosphere of the semaphore pageant.
