The Cure: Disintegration (2x LP) - LP

“Disintegration“ is the eighth studio album by the English rock band the Cure, released on May 1, 1989 by Fiction Records. The recording is a return to the dark sound of gothic rock that the band played in the early eighties. As the band' s singer and guitarist Robert Smith approached his thirties, he felt the growing pressure to build on pop successes with something more permanent. This, along with a reluctance to gain popularity, led Smith to return to hallucinogenic drugs, which had a major impact on the album' s finale.

The Cure recorded Disintegration at Hookend Recording Studio in Checkendon, Oxfordshire, with co-producer David M. Allen from the end of 1988 to February 1989. During the recording, founding member Lol Tolhurst was fired from the band due to alcohol problems. Despite the label' s fear that the album would be a failure, Disintegration became the commercial highlight of The Cure. It ranked third in the United Kingdom and twelfth in the United States.

Disintegration remains the band' s best-selling album with more than three million copies sold. The album was also a critical success - ranking 326th in the prestigious Rolling Stone chart - the 500 best albums of all time. The lyrics were composed by the band' s frontman Robert Smith, the whole band The Cure (Smith / Gallup / O' Donnell / Thompson / Williams) participated in the music.
