The Fateful Years

KAVÁRNA S BOHATOU TRADICÍ BEZOHLEDNÝ KONKURENT OSUDOVÁ LÁSKA Wiesbaden, rok 1951 Kavárnu U Anděla čekají bouřlivé časy. Right next to the Koch family's traditional business, a certain competitor with a sense of modernity will attract attention. While Hilda desperately tries to convince her parents that the café needs to be modernised, her hard-won love is also threatened. With the happiness of both her brothers, it's no better: Wilhelm, admired by women, engages in superficial love games while his heart yearns for a woman who is unattainable for him. And his elder brother August falls in love with a young Russian woman after his return from Russian war captivity, unaware that his choice threatens to split the family apart. Outside, the pre-spring sun shines innocently. People in coats and hats sit on the benches on Warmer Damm Street and turn their winter-pale faces to the first rays. Yellow and white crocuses are blooming in the beds, the first tulips are already poking their lime green heads out of the soil. Across the street in front of the U Krále café, two waiters are already setting up tables and folding chairs. Hilda greets them with a nod of her head and thinks to herself that hardly anyone will be drinking coffee outside in this March chill. Or is it? The U Krále café, which was established two years ago in a temporary building next to the U Anděla café, is a thorn in Hilda and her family's side.
