The first study of the Old Testament
The First Study of the Old Testament monograph presents a systematic arrangement of basic information for the study of Old Testament biblical studies. It begins with a general introduction to the nature of the Bible and continues with a special introduction to the various sections and books of the Old Testament. The general introduction addresses the divine inspiration and canon of the Scriptures, the setting and history of their composition, the characteristics of the original text, its translation and interpretation. The special introduction has two parts, the first of which is devoted to the parts of the Hebrew Bible in the order: The Law (Torah, Pentateuch), the Prophets "front" and "back" and the Writings; in the second are the so-called. deuterocanonical books in order: "historical", sapiential, prophetic and "new historical". The basic characteristics of each book are organically supplemented by short exegeses of some key points. The author takes a Catholic view of Scripture, but strives for clarity for people of other faiths and no faith - by emphasizing generally human themes or the Jewish division of the canon. It offers the reader both the incorporation of his previous knowledge of the Old Testament into a coherent interpretation of Scripture and a possible basis for his further detailed study of biblical studies.
