The Girl in the Eagle's Claws
Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander are back on the scene. The seventh case in the Millennium series.
A gold rush has hit the far north of Sweden. Previously untapped natural resources are attracting crowds of people, but not everyone is arriving with good intentions. Lisbeth Salander hasn't come here seeking wealth, but to become the guardian of her niece, Svala, whose mother has mysteriously disappeared. Mikael Blomkvist is heading to his daughter's wedding. Their strained relationship worsens when unpleasant rumours begin to spread about the groom. Mikael's last hope is Lisbeth – and so the two once again find themselves in the eye of the storm.
The seventh instalment of the Millennium series, this time from the pen of Karin Smirnoff.
The author made her mark on readers and literary critics with her trilogy My Brother (Jag for ner till bro, 2018), Our Mother (Vi for upp med mor, 2019), and The Return Home (Sen for jag hem, 2020). Now she brings the next chapter in the story of Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, told in her own stark style with a focus on detail. In all its nakedness, she conveys the darkness and bleakness of the Swedish north to her readers.
Karin Smirnoff
Karin Smirnoff (* 1964) is a Swedish writer who originally worked as a journalist before deciding to change fields and buying a timber company in northern Sweden. She later graduated from the literary academy at Lund University, and it was during this time that she began writing the trilogy featuring the main character Jana Kippo, set in a village near the author's birthplace in Umeå. The very first instalment, My Brother (Jag for ner till bro, 2018), became a sensation in Sweden and was nominated for the prestigious August Prize. The entire trilogy – Our Mother (Vi for upp med mor, 2019) and The Return Home (Sen for jag hem, 2020) – is praised by both readers and critics for its literary quality. The family drama tells a story of hidden traumas, struggles with addiction, and the desire to belong. Through the fates of the Kippo family, depicted with raw tenderness and a unique linguistic style, the author reveals cruel human motivations in all their painful nakedness. In 2021, it was officially announced that Karin Smirnoff would be the next author to continue the bestselling Millennium series.
