The Last Scribe of Crete
A historical novel about the Phaistos Disc
At the bottom of the ashes lies a spiral.
And within it, the voice of a civilisation that vanished.
In 1908, archaeologist Luigi Pernier discovers a mysterious clay disc in the ruins of a Cretan palace. A spiral of 241 symbols, imprinted in clay millennia ago, that remains undeciphered to this day. Who created it? Why? And what were they trying to tell a world on the brink of destruction?
The novel follows the fate of a young scribe, Ikaros, during the final years of Minoan power. Political tension between palaces, the threat of natural disaster, power struggles, and the knowledge of an impending end – all of this is imprinted into a single spiral, destined to survive the fire.
In a parallel storyline, a modern-day archaeologist tries to understand not only the disc itself but also the civilisation that created it. However, he gradually realises that the questions of the past are pointing towards the present.
Is the Phaistos Disc just an undeciphered text?
Or is it a warning?
A historical novel about memory, power, the fragility of civilisations, and the returning spiral of time.
