The Legacy of the Dead

Few would describe the late 17th century in the territory of Slovakia as a peaceful period. Nové Zámky falls in the war with the Ottoman Empire, and after further battles in 1664, the Emperor signs the Peace of Vasvár. This leads to serious discontent among the Hungarian nobility, who consider the peace treaty humiliating and rebel against Habsburg rule. Conflicts between Catholics and Protestants flare up again. In this grim situation live the citizens of the town of Brezno, who wish for a peaceful and free life.
