The Limehouse Bitch
A thrilling story in the tradition of the best English detective fiction
It is the summer of 1871 when Scotland Yard Inspector Ben Ross visits Jacob Jacobus, a notorious antiquarian, friend of villains and police informant. Ben hopes to get information from him about possible robberies that might take place now that the wealthiest classes of society have returned to London for the season. He is unaware, however, that a daring theft has already taken place – an emerald necklace, a family heirloom of incalculable value, has been stolen from a dressing table at the Roxby residence, and the widowed Mrs Roxby is demanding its immediate return. Ben's day gets even worse when, in the company of his wife Lizzie, he receives news that evening that Jacob Jacobus has been found dead in his room, his throat slit. Is it possible that the two crimes are connected?
