The Lost Patrol

A coach was making its way through a ravine overgrown with bushes, heading for Wichita in northern Texas. Suddenly, five riders spurred their horses from the cover of the dense thicket and brandished their colts. Alamo Scott, the leader of the gang during this raid, shouted in a harsh voice: “Stop, or we'll start shooting!” The driver reined in the horses. His guide didn't reach for his shotgun. The five robbers could truly count themselves lucky because their guns weren't even loaded. These former Confederate soldiers from the Civil War were in such a desperate state that they didn't even have ammunition for their weapons.
