The Man of Seven Sisters
A brilliant joke on 174 pages, with a brilliant punchline told by a brilliant storyteller. Everyone knows the book Petrol Lamps by Jaroslav Havlíček and, of course, the film with the charming Petr Čepek; most people know Helimadoe, also rather the film version. There are few men of the seven sisters. It is a manuscript found in Havlíček's estate that was published only once, at the end of the 1990s. Emil Škvor was lucky or unlucky to have been born to a father who was a renowned prankster and storyteller in the town and the surrounding area. Emil's only ambition was to outdo his late father in the joke and he tried to do it with mathematical precision. His wit required him to show himself to be a tireless lover, a great storyteller, a bit of a stickler for choosing mistresses, and above all, completely and utterly accurate.
