The mists of Öland

The mystery of the missing boy from the misty wastes of Öland

It's a cool day at the end of summer. A little boy carefully climbs over a stone wall at a lonely house. He looks around the grassy landscape of Öland, steps into the fog and disappears without a trace. No one, family or police, will ever see him again.
Twenty years later, Julie, the mother of the missing boy, receives a strange message from her father: is to return to Öland to help him search for his lost grandson. A package arrived in the mail with the boy's shoe in it. A dark past painfully returns and Julie is determined to uncover the secret on her own. However, she soon discovers that someone wants to prevent her from searching at all costs. Is this the alleged murderer Nils Kant, a man who should have been dead long ago? Many people still believe that this man still wanders the wastes of Öland and appears at the moment when the hour of shadows comes and the voices of the dead are heard.

Johan Theorin

Johan Theorin was born 3.9. 1963 in Gothenburg. From childhood he spent every summer on the island of Öland, which had a fatal influence on his later literary work. His mother's family, made up mainly of sailors, fishermen and farmers, had lived here for centuries and cared for the island's heritage, mysterious stories and folklore. This almost mystical setting inspired him to write a series of stories in which he masterfully combines the genius loci of Öland with a detective plot. He currently lives in Gothenburg and works as a journalist. Among other reasons, he is often compared to Stieg Larsson. The author began his literary career writing short stories for various magazines and anthologies. His first novel Skumtimmen (Mlhy Ölandu, MOBA - November 2011) was published in the spring of 2007 and became an instant bestseller. So far it has been published in twenty countries, including Germany, USA, Brazil, Thailand or Slovakia, and in 2007 won the Swedish Academy of Detective Fiction's award for the best detective story of the year. He followed up this first part of his intended free tetralogy in 2008 with the novel Nattfåk, which also received many awards. Among other things, it was named the best Swedish crime novel of 2008, received the Glass Key Award in 2009 and the CWA International Dagger in 2010. The third part of the series was published in 2010 under the title Blodläge, and the author is currently working on the final part of the series.
