The New French Philosophy
Thorough, Although deliberately not exhaustive, this insight into contemporary French philosophy presents the thought of seven authors - Jean-Luc Marion, Jean-Luc Nancy, Bernard Stiegler, Catherine Malabou, Jacques Ranciere, Alain Badiou and François Laruelle -, which are linked by the definition of the post-structuralist generation and the linguistic paradigm, orientation to the life sciences and materialistic thinking. All these philosophers start from the premise, that the destruction or deconstruction of metaphysics, subjectivity or traditional notions of being, Truth and knowledge is necessary (and incomplete), but not enough of a gesture to cope, what is required of contemporary thinking. Subjectivity, ontology, Right, epistemology, as well as problems of universality, ethics and politics, they argue, must be rethought from scratch, in an affirmative and constructive rather than deconstructive way.
