In The Seventh Step to Darkness, we meet Montagu Rhodes James for the second time in the series, who was from the English county of Kent
He was at the cradle of English ghost stories (as a respected scholar of medieval art, literature and architecture, he wrote them for pleasure and only published them at the insistence of friends) and his work became a huge inspiration to Howard Phillips Lovecraft. His ghost stories, which were characterised by great variety, were based on the Gothic novel. The plot of the short story Just Whistle, Boy, and I'll Come Running is based on a situation where the skeptical Professor Parkins finds a whistle with inscriptions in Latin... and of course blows it. In the short story It Happened at School, the atmosphere of mystery and fear revolves around a mysterious Byzantine coin. The first story is read by Petr Šmíd, Pavel Nový, Marta Dancingerová and William Valerián, while the second features the voices of Petr Šmíd, Pavel Nový and Arnošt Goldflam.
