The Search for God
The essays are a continuation of the author's successful book Evolution by Its Own Creator, which was appreciated by experts and the public. From the Big Bang to Global Civilization (2013). In a clear and readable manner, Veverka traces the history of theological thought, illuminating basic concepts such as pantheism, deism, and theism, and discussing in detail the various proofs of God's existence as they were developed in different periods of European theology and philosophy. He pays special attention to 20th century theological thinking that responded to the development of scientific knowledge. The modern theory of creation is represented here mainly by the so-called. anthropic principle, or the God of the Big Bang.
However, the author doesn't just stick to thinking and theoretical concepts. In several chapters, it deals with real religions, from animism and polytheism through the three great monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity, Islam - to the individual faiths and mythologies of the East. Veverka makes no secret of his criticism of the major monotheistic religions in particular, but he also has a deep understanding of the human search for God and something that transcends us.
Miroslav Veverka (1927) graduated from the Faculty of Law of Charles University and worked as a judge and an employee of the Ministry of Justice until the beginning of normalisation. In 1971 he had to leave the judiciary for political reasons and worked as a social worker until 1989. At this time he began to study biology and other natural sciences in his spare time.
In 1990, he was elected a judge of the Supreme Court in Prague and after the relocation of this institution to Brno, he continued as a judge of the High Court in Prague until his retirement in 2003. In this capacity, he also handled some of the most well-known cases in the media, such as the case of General Alojz Lorenc, the agent provocateur Ludvík Zifčák and the assassin Jiří Kajínek.
In the 1960s and 1970s he published a number of articles in professional journals at home and abroad, mostly in the field of criminology. His first book was Evolution by its own Creator (2013).
